In June 2025, John Kiser sat down with Elana Margulies, Director at EisnerAmper Advisory Group, to discuss his perspective on investing in small and undervalued oil and gas properties across the United States. The conversation covered compelling opportunities in both the upstream and midstream sectors.

On the midstream side, Kiser pointed to the growing demand for natural gas—driven in part by data centers increasingly powered by gas-fired plants. This trend is fueling a new wave of pipeline construction, especially to support expanding LNG export capacity. With more than a dozen export terminals now operating along the Gulf Coast and projected growth of over 40%, infrastructure development is creating attractive midstream investment opportunities.

In the upstream sector, improving natural gas prices are providing tailwinds for producers. At the same time, the industry faces several challenges, including a shrinking talent pipeline as fewer students pursue careers in geology and petroleum engineering. Uncertainty around tariffs is also pushing many companies to focus inward and tighten cost controls.

Despite these headwinds, Kiser remains confident in the long-term outlook. “We always want prices to be higher,” he noted, “but we’re prepared to manage through the inevitable cycles.”
